Frequently Asked Questions

  • Formigli specializes in handmade custom bicycles, including limited production custom carbon and custom steel road bikes. All frames are performance-oriented and uniquely tailored to the rider's body, ensuring no two bikes are the same.

  • Every Formigli bike starts with a personal conversation. Share details about your current bike, riding style, goals, and any specific features you've always wanted. We facilitate direct interaction with our master builder, Renzo, translating your messages into Italian as needed. From there, Renzo designs and hand-crafts your frame to your exact specifications.

  • We are currently accepting a limited number of private commissions for 2026 delivery. Production is intentionally small-scale to maintain our handmade quality, so we recommend starting your conversation soon to secure a spot.

  • A Formigli is built one tube at a time — each tube measured, cut, and shaped specifically for the individual rider. Every material is sourced in Italy and crafted by Italian hands. Mass-produced bikes rely on monocoque molds, where each size comes from the same fixed shapes, and some brands even use a single fork across all sizes, creating compromises in fit, handling, and stability. Renzo’s approach allows precise geometry and carbon layup for each owner, resulting in a ride that feels balanced, natural, and unmistakably personal.

  • Current lead time is 75 days, but the calendar fills up quickly so we recommend reaching out at your earliest convenience in order to secure a slot.

  • Every Formigli frame is built in Florence under Renzo Formigli’s direct supervision. Just as frame-building knowledge was once passed down to him at Cinelli, Renzo has hand-selected and trained a small group of talented craftsmen over many years, who now work alongside him to his exact standards. Steel frames are built in our central workshop; carbon frames are produced in two specialized custom workshops in Tuscany.

  • Yes. All Formigli frames are designed and built in Italy.

  • You will communicate with our native English-speaking team. Your words and questions are translated word for word and shared directly with Renzo, who personally reads every message related to your bicycle.

  • Fit and geometry are developed individually in one of three ways:

    • In person: Visit our workshop in Florence, where Renzo personally takes your measurements and designs your frame based on his experience and your riding style.

    • Remote: Follow our measurement guide and video. Renzo interprets your data to design a frame tailored to your body, riding preferences, and vision.

    • With your biomechanic: We can collaborate with your fitter using a Formigli design sheet, translating their fit data directly into your custom geometry.

  • Yes. Existing fit data or collaboration with your fitter can be incorporated into the design process.

  • Renzo determines the materials and construction for each Formigli frame based on the model, intended performance, and his decades of experience designing how a bicycle should ride. Materials are engineered as part of the frame’s overall design, not selected from a menu.

Carbon frames are built entirely in Italy. Renzo designs the tube shapes and carbon forms, and the tubes are built in-house using Italian-made carbon fiber. Each tube is laid up by hand, assembled tube by tube, and finished to achieve the intended stiffness, balance, and ride feel.

Steel frames are built using Italian Columbus steel, either Omnicron or Niobium.

  • We ship directly to your home or office anywhere in the world and manage all international logistics.
